About this exercise

A seated version of the bicycle crunch performed on a chair, where you alternately bring each elbow toward the opposite rising knee. The twisting motion intensely targets the obliques and abs while being accessible to those who cannot perform floor exercises.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright near the edge of a sturdy chair with feet flat on the floor
  • Place your hands behind your head with elbows pointing out to the sides
  • Brace your core and lean back very slightly from the hips
  • Lift your right knee toward your chest while rotating your left elbow to meet it
  • Return to center and immediately lift your left knee while rotating your right elbow to meet it
  • Continue alternating in a smooth, cycling motion
  • Keep your lower back stable and avoid pulling on your neck
  • Maintain a controlled tempo throughout the set
