About this exercise

A unilateral self-myofascial release technique performed lying face-down, using a foam roller to target the tibialis anterior on one leg at a time. The single-leg position allows you to apply more focused pressure to the front of the shin for deeper tissue release.

How to Perform

  • Lie face-down on the floor and place the foam roller under the front of one shin, just below the knee
  • Support your upper body on your forearms and keep the non-working leg relaxed to the side
  • Shift your body weight onto the working shin to increase pressure on the roller
  • Slowly roll from just below the knee down toward the ankle along the shin
  • Pause on tight or tender areas for 20–30 seconds to allow the tissue to release
  • Rotate your foot slightly inward or outward to address different portions of the tibialis anterior
  • Switch legs and repeat on the other side
