Foam Roll Tibialis Anterior

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Foam Roll Tibialis Anterior.

EasyShin

About this exercise

A self-myofascial release technique using a foam roller to target the tibialis anterior — the muscle running along the front of the shin. Rolling this often-overlooked area helps relieve shin tightness, reduce shin splint discomfort, and improve ankle mobility.

How to Perform

  • Start on all fours (hands and knees) on the floor
  • Place the foam roller perpendicular to your shins, positioned just below your knees on the front of the lower leg
  • Lower your body so your shins rest on the roller and support yourself on your hands
  • Slowly roll forward and back, moving the roller from just below the knee down toward the ankle
  • Pause on any tight or tender spots and hold for 20–30 seconds
  • Keep your core engaged and breathe steadily throughout the movement
  • Repeat along the full length of both shins
