About this exercise

A self-myofascial release technique where you use a foam roller to mobilize the thoracic (mid and upper) spine while lying on the floor. Rolling along the thoracic vertebrae helps release tension in the upper back, improve spinal extension, and enhance overall posture.

How to Perform

  • Place the foam roller horizontally on the floor and sit in front of it
  • Lie back so the roller is positioned across your mid-back at the level of your shoulder blades
  • Support your head with both hands clasped behind your neck
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor and knees bent
  • Gently extend your upper back over the roller, pausing on tender spots
  • Slowly roll from the mid-back upward toward your upper traps, then back down
  • Continue rolling for the desired duration, breathing steadily throughout
