About this exercise

A foam rolling mobility drill performed lying on the floor where you extend one or both arms forward to reach and retract the shoulder blade while the roller targets the mid-back. The reaching motion actively mobilizes the scapula and surrounding soft tissue.

How to Perform

  • Place the foam roller horizontally on the floor and lie back onto it at mid-back height
  • Support your head with both hands or extend arms out to the sides
  • Cross your arms across your chest or reach one arm forward to protract the shoulder blade
  • Slowly roll the affected area, pausing on points of tension
  • While paused, actively reach the arm forward to deepen the scapular release
  • Alternate sides or work both simultaneously, maintaining steady breathing
  • Continue for the desired duration, keeping your core lightly braced
