About this exercise

A self-massage release for the calf performed seated on the floor with a foam roller under one lower leg. Supporting yourself on your hands, you roll the calf slowly along the roller, with the other leg crossed on top to add pressure. Rolling relieves calf tightness and improves ankle mobility.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your hands behind you for support and place the foam roller under one calf
  • Cross the other leg over the working leg to add pressure
  • Lift your hips slightly off the floor so your weight rests on the roller
  • Roll slowly from below the knee down to the ankle and back
  • Pause on tender spots for a few breaths before continuing
  • Switch legs and repeat
