About this exercise

A seated self-myofascial release drill that rolls the hamstrings (back of the thighs) over a foam roller to relieve tightness, improve tissue quality, and restore hip and knee mobility. It is a useful warm-up or recovery technique, especially after squatting, running, or prolonged sitting.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your legs extended and place the foam roller under your thighs, just below the glutes
  • Plant your hands on the floor behind your hips and press down to lift your seat off the ground, resting your weight on the roller
  • Slowly roll back and forth so the roller travels along the hamstrings, from just under the glutes to just above the backs of the knees
  • Pause for a few seconds on any tender spots and breathe, letting the muscle relax
  • Rotate the legs slightly inward and outward to reach the inner and outer hamstrings
  • Continue rolling for 30–60 seconds, then rest
