About this exercise

A core exercise that uses a foam roller to add instability to the classic reverse crunch, increasing abdominal activation by requiring the body to stabilise on the roller throughout the movement. The rolling surface forces the deep core muscles to work harder compared to performing the exercise on a flat floor.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back and place the foam roller horizontally under your lower back or sacrum
  • Extend your arms along your sides or grip a fixed object behind your head for support
  • Draw your knees toward your chest and curl your hips off the roller, lifting your tailbone upward
  • Pause at the top of the movement, squeezing your abs
  • Slowly lower your hips back down to the roller under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, keeping your movements smooth and deliberate
