Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Foam Roll Pigeon Stretch.

EasyGlutes

About this exercise

A foam rolling variation of the classic pigeon pose that targets the glutes and outer hip of one leg at a time. Placing the foam roller under the crossed leg allows you to apply targeted pressure to the piriformis and surrounding hip musculature while exploring deeper release through subtle movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor and place the foam roller under one glute
  • Cross the ankle of that leg over the opposite knee, forming a figure-four shape
  • Support yourself with your hands behind you on the floor
  • Lean slightly into the crossed leg side to increase pressure on the glute
  • Slowly tilt and shift your weight to roll across the glute and outer hip
  • Pause on any tender spots for several seconds to allow the tissue to soften
  • Complete the desired duration, then switch sides and repeat
