About this exercise

A unilateral self-myofascial release technique performed in a side-lying position, using a foam roller to target the peroneal muscles of one leg at a time. Isolating one leg allows for increased pressure and more precise targeting of the outer lower-leg tissue.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side and place the foam roller under the outer lower leg of the working limb, between the ankle and knee
  • Stack the non-working leg on top or slightly behind to keep it off the roller
  • Prop your upper body up on your forearm for support
  • Apply bodyweight pressure through the outer leg onto the roller
  • Slowly roll from the ankle toward the knee along the lateral lower leg
  • Pause on tight or tender areas for 20–30 seconds to encourage tissue release
  • Switch to the other side and repeat
