About this exercise

A self-myofascial release technique targeting the mid-thoracic spine and surrounding musculature. Rolling the middle back helps restore thoracic mobility, reduce stiffness, and improve posture.

How to Perform

  • Place the foam roller on the floor and sit in front of it
  • Lean back so the roller rests beneath your middle back (mid-thoracic region, roughly behind your chest)
  • Support your weight with your feet flat on the floor and knees bent; place your hands lightly behind your head
  • Slowly roll up and down along the middle back, from just below the shoulder blades toward the lower thoracic area
  • Pause on any stiff or tender segments for 2–3 seconds and breathe deeply
  • Continue rolling for the desired duration
