About this exercise

Lat foam rolling is a self-myofascial release technique targeting the latissimus dorsi and the surrounding tissues of the mid and upper back. Rolling along the lats helps release tension, improve shoulder mobility, and promote recovery after pulling exercises.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side with the foam roller positioned beneath your armpit, perpendicular to your body
  • Extend the bottom arm overhead and use your top hand and feet to control your bodyweight on the roller
  • Slowly roll down your side from the armpit toward the lower ribcage, targeting the lat muscle
  • When you find a tender or tight spot, pause and hold pressure for several seconds
  • Keep your breathing steady and stay relaxed throughout the roll
  • Roll for 30–60 seconds on one side, then reposition and repeat on the other side
