About this exercise

A kneeling foam roller drill that combines thoracic rolling with rotational movement to mobilize the upper back and improve spinal rotation. The kneeling position allows targeted pressure on the mid-back while rotation opens up the facet joints of the thoracic spine.

How to Perform

  • Kneel on the floor and place the foam roller horizontally in front of you at chest height
  • Rest your forearms or clasped hands on the roller for support
  • Lean into the roller so it presses against your upper back
  • Roll slowly back and forth to find a point of tension in the upper back
  • From that position, rotate your upper body to the left, opening your chest
  • Return to centre, then rotate to the right
  • Continue alternating rotations for the desired duration, keeping core engaged
