About this exercise

A foam roller stretch that simultaneously releases the latissimus dorsi and the outer hip, combining a side-lying rolling technique to address tightness along the full lateral chain from the hip to the lower back and side of the torso. It is particularly effective after pulling exercises or long periods of sitting.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side and place the foam roller under the side of your hip just below the pelvis
  • Extend your lower arm overhead and stack your legs or stagger them for balance
  • Slowly roll from the hip upward along the side of the torso toward the armpit
  • Pause on any tight spots for 20–30 seconds, breathing into the stretch
  • Bring your top arm overhead to deepen the lat stretch while holding a tender area
  • Switch sides and repeat
