About this exercise

A myofascial release technique targeting the tensor fasciae latae — a small muscle at the front-outer hip that feeds into the iliotibial band. Rolling it out reduces lateral hip and knee tightness and improves overall hip mobility.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side and position the ball just below and slightly in front of the hip bone
  • Support yourself on your forearm and allow your body weight to compress onto the ball
  • Slowly roll forward and back to find the belly of the TFL muscle
  • Pause on tender spots and hold steady pressure for 20–30 seconds
  • Make small rotational movements to work deeper into the tissue
  • Switch to the other side and repeat
