About this exercise

A myofascial release technique targeting the levator scapulae — the muscle running from the upper cervical vertebrae to the top corner of the shoulder blade. Rolling it relieves neck stiffness and upper back tension commonly caused by desk work and poor posture.

How to Perform

  • Stand with your back against a wall and position the ball between the wall and the upper back, just above the top inner corner of one shoulder blade
  • Gently lean into the wall so the ball presses into the levator scapulae
  • Slowly move your body to roll the ball upward toward the base of the skull
  • Pause on tender spots and hold for 20–30 seconds while breathing slowly
  • Tilt your head away from the working side to deepen the stretch
  • Switch to the other side and repeat
