About this exercise

The ball roll gluteus maximus release uses a therapy or massage ball to target the large gluteal muscle with myofascial pressure, relieving tension and improving tissue mobility in the buttocks. This technique is particularly beneficial after heavy lower-body training sessions or prolonged sitting.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor and place a therapy ball directly under one glute
  • Cross the ankle of the working side over the opposite knee to deepen the hip position and access more of the glute
  • Shift your weight onto the ball and slowly roll forward, backward, and side to side
  • Pause on any tight or tender areas and hold for 20–30 seconds
  • Breathe steadily and consciously relax the glute muscle throughout
  • Continue for the desired duration, then move the ball to the other side
