About this exercise

A self-myofascial release technique in which a small massage ball is used to apply targeted pressure to the posterior deltoid, releasing knots and reducing tightness in the rear shoulder. Regular use can improve shoulder mobility and reduce discomfort from overhead or pressing work.

How to Perform

  • Place a massage or lacrosse ball between the back of your shoulder and a wall or flat surface
  • Apply light bodyweight pressure to pin the ball against the posterior deltoid
  • Slowly move your body to roll the ball in small circles across the muscle
  • When you find a tender or tight spot, pause and hold gentle pressure for 20–30 seconds
  • Breathe steadily and allow the muscle to relax into the pressure
  • Continue rolling for 60–90 seconds, then switch to the other shoulder
