About this exercise

A comprehensive foam rolling technique performed lying on the floor where you systematically roll in multiple directions across the back — from side to side and top to bottom — to cover all angles of the mid and upper back musculature. This wide-ranging pattern ensures thorough myofascial release along the entire back.

How to Perform

  • Place the foam roller horizontally on the floor and lie back so it sits at mid-back level
  • Support your head with hands clasped behind your neck, knees bent and feet flat
  • Begin rolling slowly up and down the spine from the mid-back to the upper traps
  • Tilt slightly to the left and roll along the left side of the back
  • Return to centre, then tilt to the right and roll along the right side
  • Rotate your torso slightly to reach the muscles at different angles
  • Continue cycling through all directions for the desired duration, breathing steadily
