About this exercise

The ring weighted pronated grip inverted row is an advanced back exercise that combines the instability of gymnastic rings with added external load. Using an overhand grip on the rings forces greater engagement of the upper back and lats while the weight plate adds intensity beyond bodyweight.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings at hip to chest height and secure a weight plate to a belt or vest
  • Grip the rings with an overhand (pronated) grip and hang beneath them with your body straight from head to heels
  • Brace your core and squeeze your glutes to maintain a rigid plank position
  • Pull your chest up to the rings by driving your elbows back and squeezing your shoulder blades together
  • Hold the top position briefly, ensuring your chest reaches the rings
  • Lower yourself in a controlled manner back to full arm extension
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
