About this exercise

The ring tuck planche is an advanced gymnastic skill in which the body is held parallel to the floor with knees tucked to the chest, supported only by the hands on gymnastic rings. It demands exceptional shoulder, chest, and core strength as well as ring stability.

How to Perform

  • Grip the gymnastic rings with straight arms and jump or press up so your hips rise above ring height
  • Lean your torso forward until your shoulders are in front of the rings and your body begins to tilt parallel
  • Tuck both knees tightly into your chest to reduce the lever arm
  • Hold the position with straight, locked-out arms, protracted shoulder blades, and a rigid core
  • Keep the rings turned out slightly for stability throughout the hold
  • Lower back to the ground with control when the hold is complete
