About this exercise

The ring swing is a gymnastic skill performed on suspended rings in which you generate and control rhythmic swinging motion through your core and shoulders. It builds body tension, shoulder stability, and serves as the foundation for more advanced ring skills like the muscle-up.

How to Perform

  • Grip the gymnastic rings with both hands at shoulder width, arms fully extended overhead
  • Engage your core and squeeze your glutes to create full-body tension
  • Push the rings slightly forward with straight arms to initiate the forward swing
  • Allow the backward swing to follow naturally, keeping your body in a tight hollow or arch position as appropriate
  • Use your shoulders and core to control the arc and maintain consistent height with each rep
  • Keep your arms straight and wrists neutral throughout the movement
  • Land softly or decelerate the swing in a controlled manner to finish

About the Ring Swing
