Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Ring Single Arm Rear Delt Row.

MediumRear shoulders

About this exercise

A unilateral rowing movement performed on gymnastic rings that isolates the rear deltoid while also engaging the upper back and biceps. The single-arm setup creates a rotational challenge that demands core stability throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Set the gymnastic rings to roughly hip or waist height
  • Stand facing the rings and grasp one ring with a neutral or pronated grip
  • Lean back so your body is on an angle, feet flat on the floor and arm extended
  • Keep your body straight from head to heels as a rigid plank
  • Row your elbow out and back, leading with the rear delt rather than the biceps
  • Squeeze the rear deltoid and upper back at the top of the pull
  • Lower yourself under control back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
