About this exercise

A decline push-up variation where the hands are placed in gymnastic rings and the feet are elevated on a bench or box. The rings introduce rotational instability that recruits additional stabilising muscles, while the decline angle shifts emphasis to the lower chest.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings low to the ground and position a bench or sturdy elevated surface behind you
  • Grip the rings with both hands and place your feet on the elevated surface so your body forms a decline angle
  • Maintain a straight line from head to heels with your core tight
  • Lower your chest toward the floor by bending the elbows, keeping them at roughly a 45-degree angle from your body
  • Allow the rings to rotate naturally as you descend to keep the wrists neutral
  • Push back up forcefully until your arms are fully extended
  • Squeeze your chest at the top of each rep
