About this exercise

The Ring Hanging Straight Leg Hip Raise is an advanced core exercise performed while hanging from gymnastic rings. Keeping the legs fully extended throughout, you raise your feet up toward the rings, demanding exceptional abdominal and hip-flexor strength as well as shoulder stability.

How to Perform

  • Hang from the rings with arms fully extended, body straight, and legs together
  • Pack your shoulders and brace your core to prevent swinging
  • With straight legs, raise both feet upward by flexing at the hips
  • Continue until your legs are parallel to the floor or higher, depending on your strength level
  • Hold briefly at the top of the movement
  • Lower your legs slowly and under control back to the hanging position
  • Avoid using momentum — maintain a strict, controlled motion throughout
