About this exercise

The Ring Hanging Leg Hip Raise is a core exercise performed while hanging from gymnastic rings. With knees slightly bent, you raise your legs upward to engage the abs and hip flexors, while the instability of the rings provides an added grip and shoulder-stability challenge.

How to Perform

  • Hang from the rings with arms fully extended, feet together, and knees slightly bent
  • Pack your shoulders down and brace your core
  • Raise both legs upward by flexing at the hips, keeping a slight bend in the knees
  • Lift until your thighs are at least parallel to the floor
  • Hold briefly at the top of the movement
  • Lower your legs slowly and under control back to the starting position
  • Avoid swinging — use abdominal strength rather than momentum
