About this exercise

The ring handstand to L-sit is an advanced gymnastic skill that transitions from a fully inverted handstand on gymnastic rings down to a compressed L-sit position. It demands exceptional core strength, shoulder stability, and full-body control throughout the entire range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a ring handstand with arms locked out, rings turned out, and body fully extended overhead
  • Maintain a tight core and straight body line in the handstand position
  • Slowly lower your feet by piking at the hips, keeping your arms straight throughout the descent
  • As your body descends through vertical, tuck if needed to manage momentum
  • Arrive in an L-sit with hips at ring height, legs extended parallel to the floor, and arms pressing down hard
  • Hold the L-sit with legs together and feet elevated, squeezing abs and hip flexors
  • Return to the handstand by pressing upward in a controlled manner to complete the rep
