About this exercise

The ring front raise is a bodyweight shoulder exercise performed using gymnastic rings. Leaning back and gripping the rings, you raise your arms forward and up against your body weight, effectively loading the anterior deltoids. The rings introduce instability that engages additional stabilizing muscles in the shoulder girdle.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings at approximately waist height and grip them with a neutral grip
  • Lean back with arms extended behind you so your body is at a diagonal angle
  • Keep your core engaged and your body in a straight line from head to heels
  • Raise both arms forward and up in front of you while maintaining the body lean
  • Continue until your arms are approximately parallel to the ground or slightly above
  • Lower your arms slowly back to the starting position, resisting the pull of gravity
