Ring Elevated Pike Push-Up from Deficit

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Ring Elevated Pike Push-Up from Deficit.

HardFront shouldersSide shoulders

About this exercise

A highly challenging shoulder-focused push-up variation performed on gymnastic rings in a pike position with hands below the level of the rings, creating a deficit for greater range of motion. The instability of the rings and the steep angle combine to maximally engage the anterior and medial deltoids.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings just above floor height and place your hands in the rings
  • Walk your feet forward and raise your hips so your body forms an inverted V shape
  • Position your hands below the rings to create a deficit — rings hanging freely allow extra depth
  • Keep your arms fully extended and shoulders actively engaged at the start
  • Lower your head toward the floor by bending your elbows, flaring them slightly out to the sides
  • Descend until your head passes below the level of your hands
  • Press powerfully back up through the rings to full arm extension
  • Maintain a tight core and controlled ring position throughout each rep
