About this exercise

A challenging gymnastic skill on rings in which you initiate a back roll and finish by pressing up into a stable ring support position. It demands strong core control, shoulder stability, and the pressing power of the triceps to lock out overhead.

How to Perform

  • Set the rings at roughly hip height and grip one ring in each hand with a firm overhand grip
  • Lower yourself to the ground and lie on your back, holding the rings with arms extended above you
  • Initiate a backward roll, keeping the rings close and elbows bent as you travel over
  • As your hips rise and pass over your shoulders, drive through the rings and push your hands down
  • Continue the roll until your arms are below your shoulders and begin to press to straight
  • Lock out the elbows and stabilise in a ring support position with body upright and arms fully extended
  • Hold the support position momentarily, then lower under control to return to the start
