About this exercise

The Reverse Lunge High Knee combines a reverse lunge with an explosive high knee drive, targeting the quads, glutes, and hip flexors while building balance and coordination. The fluid, alternating pattern also elevates the heart rate.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and hands on your hips or in a guard position
  • Step one foot back and lower into a reverse lunge until both knees are at roughly 90 degrees
  • Keep your chest upright and your front knee over your front ankle
  • Drive through the front heel to stand, simultaneously driving the rear knee up high in front of you
  • Pause briefly at the top with the knee at hip height
  • Lower the foot back and step into the next reverse lunge on the same side, or alternate sides
  • Continue alternating legs for the target number of reps
