About this exercise

The Reverse Lunge Front Kick pairs a reverse lunge with an explosive front kick, training the quadriceps, glutes, and hip flexors while developing balance, coordination, and dynamic leg power. The kicking phase demands control through the full range of hip extension to flexion.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and hands on your hips or in a guard position
  • Step one foot back and lower into a reverse lunge until both knees reach roughly 90 degrees
  • Keep your front shin vertical and torso upright throughout the lunge
  • Drive through the front heel to stand up explosively
  • As you rise, swing the back leg forward and extend it into a controlled front kick at hip height
  • Hold the kick for a moment to challenge your balance on the standing leg
  • Lower the kicking foot back to the starting position and step straight into the next rep
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching, or alternate legs each rep
