About this exercise

The Reverse Hyper on Flat Bench is a bodyweight posterior-chain exercise performed lying face-down on a flat bench with the hips at the edge. Lifting the legs behind you engages the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back in a hip-extension arc with minimal spinal loading.

How to Perform

  • Position yourself face-down on a flat bench so that your hips are at the edge and your legs hang freely below
  • Grip the sides or front of the bench firmly for stability
  • Begin with your legs hanging straight down toward the floor
  • Squeeze your glutes and raise both legs behind you until they are parallel to the floor or slightly above
  • Avoid hyperextending the lower back — stop when your body forms a straight line
  • Lower your legs back down slowly and with control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
