About this exercise

A lateral banded walking drill in which the resistance band is crossed in front of the body to form an X, increasing tension on the hip abductors and glutes throughout the movement. The crossed-band position keeps constant resistance on the outer hips as you step side to side.

How to Perform

  • Step both feet onto a resistance band, then cross the band in front of you so it forms an X shape, holding one end in each hand at hip height
  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and a slight bend in your knees
  • Keep your chest up, core braced, and hips level throughout
  • Step one foot out to the side, then follow with the other foot to return to hip-width stance
  • Continue stepping in one direction for the desired number of reps, then reverse direction
  • Move in a slow, controlled manner, maintaining constant tension on the band
