About this exercise

A squat performed with a wide stance and toes angled outward against the resistance of a band, placing extra emphasis on the inner thighs and glutes. The band provides ascending resistance as you drive upward, making the top of the movement most challenging.

How to Perform

  • Step onto the center of the resistance band with feet wider than shoulder-width and toes pointed out about 45 degrees
  • Hold the band with both hands in front of you or at shoulder height, keeping tension throughout
  • Stand tall with your chest up and core braced
  • Push your knees out in line with your toes and lower your hips until your thighs are parallel to the floor
  • Keep your heels flat and your chest upright throughout the descent
  • Pause briefly at the bottom
  • Drive through your heels and squeeze your glutes to return to standing
  • Fully extend your hips at the top before beginning the next rep
