About this exercise

The resistance band standing single arm lateral raise isolates the lateral deltoid using a resistance band anchored under the foot or to a low point. Working one arm at a time allows for focused muscle development and helps address any side-to-side strength imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Stand on one end of the resistance band with the foot on the same side as the working arm
  • Hold the other end of the band with that arm, letting it hang at your side
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbow and brace your core
  • Raise your arm out to the side until it is parallel with the floor
  • Pause briefly at the top, feeling the contraction in the lateral deltoid
  • Lower your arm slowly back to your side against the band's resistance
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch arms
