About this exercise

The Resistance Band Standing Around the World is a shoulder mobility and strength exercise in which the band is moved in a large circular arc from in front of the body, overhead, and behind — working all three deltoid heads through a full range of motion. It also improves shoulder joint mobility and rotator cuff stability.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright and hold a resistance band with both hands, arms extended in front of you at hip level
  • Keep your arms straight and begin raising the band upward and outward in a wide arc
  • Continue the arc overhead, keeping slight tension in the band throughout
  • Lower the band behind your body as far as your shoulder flexibility allows
  • Reverse the motion and bring the band back over the top and down to the starting position
  • Keep your core braced and avoid arching your lower back during the movement
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions on each direction
