About this exercise

A lower-body exercise that combines a squat with a lateral step while wearing a resistance band around the legs. The band adds constant tension to challenge the glutes, outer thighs, and quadriceps throughout the movement, making it an effective hip-strengthening and activation drill.

How to Perform

  • Stand with the resistance band looped just above your knees, feet hip-width apart
  • Lower into a squat by pushing your hips back and bending your knees, keeping your chest upright
  • At the bottom of the squat, step one foot out to the side against the band tension
  • Step the other foot in to return to hip-width stance while staying in the squat position
  • Drive through your heels to stand back up to the starting position
  • Alternate the direction of the step-out with each rep or complete all reps stepping to one side first
