About this exercise

The resistance band speed step is a lateral agility drill performed with a short resistance band looped around the ankles or just above the knees. It challenges the hips, glutes, and thighs while building explosive lateral quickness and cardiovascular conditioning.

How to Perform

  • Place a short resistance band around both ankles (or above the knees) and stand with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Lower slightly into an athletic quarter-squat position, keeping your chest up and core braced
  • Drive off one foot and step rapidly to the side, maintaining tension on the band throughout
  • Quickly bring the trailing foot in and immediately step out again in the same direction
  • Perform the desired number of steps or duration to one side, then repeat to the opposite side
  • Keep your hips low and avoid letting the knees cave inward at any point
