About this exercise

A seated ankle rehabilitation and mobility exercise that uses a resistance band to strengthen the tibialis posterior and surrounding muscles by turning the foot inward against resistance. It helps improve medial ankle stability and is frequently used in ankle rehabilitation programs.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a chair or bench with your foot flat on the floor and a resistance band looped around the ball of your foot
  • Anchor the other end of the band to a fixed point on the outside of your foot (e.g., a table leg or the opposite foot)
  • Keep your heel on the floor and your leg still throughout
  • Slowly rotate your foot inward (toward the midline of your body), pulling against the band
  • Hold briefly at the end range of motion
  • Slowly return your foot to the starting position, controlling the band tension
  • Complete all reps on one foot before switching to the other
