About this exercise

A seated banded exercise in which the knees press outward and the hips rotate externally against a band placed around the thighs. The combined abduction and outward rotation targets the gluteus medius and the deep external rotators of the hip.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a bench with the band around your thighs just above the knees, feet planted wide
  • Keep your torso upright and hands resting beside you
  • Press both knees outward and let the hips rotate out against the band
  • Hold the open position briefly, feeling the outer glutes work
  • Return your knees inward under control and repeat
