About this exercise

A shoulder exercise combining an overhead press with a band pull-apart: the band is held stretched between the hands with no anchor, and as you press overhead you simultaneously pull the band apart. The outward tension keeps the rear delts and upper back working while the shoulders press.

How to Perform

  • Hold the band between your hands at chest height with tension on it
  • Press both hands overhead while pulling the band apart
  • Fully extend your arms with the band stretched wide
  • Return to chest height under control, keeping tension on the band
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
