About this exercise

The resistance band lateral walk is a glute and hip abductor exercise where you step sideways against the tension of a mini resistance band placed around your ankles or just above the knees, effectively targeting the gluteus medius and outer thighs.

How to Perform

  • Place a resistance band around your ankles or just above your knees
  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent, and assume a quarter-squat position
  • Keep your chest up, core braced, and toes pointing forward
  • Step one foot out to the side, then bring the other foot in, maintaining tension on the band throughout
  • Continue stepping laterally for the desired number of steps or distance
  • Maintain the quarter-squat position and avoid letting your knees cave inward
  • Switch direction to work both sides equally
