About this exercise

The resistance band incline triceps extension is a joint-friendly isolation exercise for the triceps performed on an incline bench. With the band anchored beneath or behind the bench, the increasing resistance through the extension challenges the triceps especially at lockout, while the incline position enhances the stretch at the bottom.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 30–45 degree incline and secure the resistance band under the bench legs or anchor it behind you
  • Lie back on the bench and hold one end of the band in each hand
  • Extend your arms above your chest so the band is taut, palms facing each other or inward
  • Keeping your upper arms vertical, bend at the elbows and lower your hands behind your head
  • Lower until you feel a strong stretch in your triceps
  • Press back up by extending the elbows until your arms are fully straight
  • Keep your upper arms stationary and elbows pointing upward throughout
  • Complete all reps in a slow, controlled manner
