About this exercise

The resistance band fingers extension is a hand rehabilitation and strengthening exercise that works the finger extensor muscles of the outer forearm. A small loop band is placed around all five fingertips, and the fingers are spread apart against its resistance to build balanced grip health and counteract repetitive gripping fatigue.

How to Perform

  • Place a small resistance band loop around all five fingers just above the first knuckle
  • Hold your hand out in front of you with fingers gently closed together
  • Spread all fingers apart as wide as possible, fully extending against the band's resistance
  • Hold the open position for a brief moment, feeling the tension along the back of the hand and outer forearm
  • Slowly close your fingers back together in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps, then perform the same on the other hand
