Resistance Band Drag Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Resistance Band Drag Curl.

EasyBiceps

About this exercise

The resistance band drag curl is a biceps isolation exercise that keeps the elbows traveling behind the body as you curl, maximizing short-head biceps contraction and reducing anterior deltoid involvement. The band is dragged upward along the torso rather than curled out in front, which shifts the load profile compared to a standard curl.

How to Perform

  • Stand on the middle of a resistance band with feet hip-width apart, holding one end in each hand at your sides
  • Keep your chest tall and shoulders back
  • Begin curling by letting your elbows travel backward as you drag the band upward along the front of your body
  • Continue curling until your hands reach chest height and the band is close to your torso
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top
  • Slowly lower the band back down along the same path, elbows returning forward
  • Maintain an upright posture throughout and avoid swinging at the hips
