About this exercise

The reach front reach top sumo squat is a bodyweight mobility exercise that combines a wide-stance sumo squat with sequential arm reaches — first forward at the bottom of the squat, then overhead as you stand. It improves hip flexibility, thoracic mobility, and lower-body strength simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet wider than shoulder-width, toes turned out at roughly 45 degrees
  • Lower into a sumo squat by bending your knees and pushing your hips back, keeping your chest tall
  • At the bottom of the squat, reach both arms straight forward at chest height
  • Hold briefly, then bring your arms back to your sides
  • Drive through your heels to stand up tall, and simultaneously reach both arms straight overhead
  • Hold the top position for a moment, then lower your arms and descend back into the squat
  • Continue the sequence in a smooth, controlled rhythm for the prescribed repetitions
