About this exercise

The prone cervical extension isometric hold is a neck strengthening exercise performed face down, where the head is raised and held statically against gravity. The sustained contraction builds endurance in the cervical extensor muscles and improves postural stability of the neck.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on a mat with your arms at your sides and your forehead just above the surface
  • Gently retract your chin to align the cervical spine
  • Lift your head off the mat by extending the neck, keeping your gaze toward the floor
  • Hold this raised position for the prescribed duration, keeping the muscles actively engaged
  • Lower your head slowly back to the mat and rest before the next hold
