About this exercise

The prone cervical extension is a neck mobility and strengthening exercise performed lying face down. By lifting the head against gravity, it activates the deep cervical extensors and upper trapezius, helping to improve posture and neck resilience.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on a mat with your arms resting at your sides and your forehead hovering just above the surface
  • Gently retract your chin to lengthen the back of your neck
  • Slowly lift your head by extending your neck, keeping your gaze directed toward the floor
  • Hold briefly at the top of the movement
  • Lower your head with control back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
