About this exercise

The prayer chest squeeze is an isometric bodyweight exercise that targets the pectoral muscles by pressing the palms together firmly in front of the chest, as if in a prayer position. It builds chest strength and improves the mind-muscle connection without any equipment.

How to Perform

  • Stand or sit upright with your spine neutral and core engaged
  • Bring both hands together in front of your chest with palms pressed firmly together, fingers pointing upward as in a prayer position
  • Press your palms against each other as hard as possible to generate maximal isometric tension in the chest muscles
  • Hold the contraction for the desired duration, breathing steadily throughout
  • Optionally move the pressed hands upward, downward, or in small circles to engage different portions of the chest
  • Release the tension and repeat for the desired number of reps
